10 Reasons to Visit Pitcairn Islands
The Pitcairn Islands, officially Pitcairn, are a group of four volcanic islands in the southern Pacific Ocean that form the last British Overseas Territory in the Pacific. Here are 10 reasons to visit Pitcairn Islands.
Pitcairn Island Museum
The Pitcairn Island Museum was built in 2004, just a very short walk from the public square in Adamstown. Accompanied by a local curator you'll discover Pitcairn artifacts from as far back as the ancient Polynesians who, it is said, produced stone tools for trading throughout the pacific region.
St Paul’s tidal pool, where you can swim in the right weather
St. Paul's Pool is one of Pitcairn Island's most stunning natural attractions, featuring a sea carved tidal pool of crystal clear waters and abundant marine life.
Bounty Bay and The Landing
Pitcairn is rugged and its coast cliff-lined nearly the entire perimeter of the island, nowhere giving easy access to the sea. Although the canoes can be launched in many places, Bounty Bay and the Tedside landing are the only two places on the island that offer a reasonably safe landing.
The Tennis courts are due for refurbishments but you can still get a good game in and most home-stay hosts have rackets and balls available.
The Pitcairn Island Eco Trail
Pitcairn's pristine waters ensure that our fish are plentiful and delicious. You can book a fishing trip with a local business or you may have the opportunity to participate in a traditional community fishing trip.
This classic example of a makatea (raised coral island) was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1988 due to its rare birdlife and an environment thankfully unexploited for its phosphate reserves.
Tiny Acadia Island, only 100m (328ft) wide, is named after a British vessel shipwrecked here in 1881 and is inhabited by tens of thousands of seabirds.
Quad Bike Tours
Quad Bikes are the primary means of transportation on Pitcairn and locals are skilled riders in all types of weather and road conditions.
Authentic Pitcairn Curio and Craft Market
You'll have ample opportunity to brows Pitcairn's local Curio and Craft Market when you visit.
